Palette Basics: Primary, Secondary, Accent
A page usually needs a primary, a secondary and one accent. The 60-30-10 rule is common: 60% primary, 30% secondary, 10% accent; text contrast should meet WCAG.
Proportions
Primary: background and large areas.
Secondary: cards and sections.
Accent: buttons and links, used sparingly.
Contrast
Body text at least 4.5:1, large text 3:1.
Do not put light text on a light primary color.
FAQ
Is the primary always the largest area?
Usually, but a brand color can be accent-only.
How to check contrast?
Use a WCAG contrast checker, not just your eyes.
